Constipation
Stool patterns vary from child to child. As long as your baby’s stools are soft and appear normal, there is no need to worry. If your baby’s stools are hard and difficult to pass then she may be constipated.
Some signs that your baby may be constipated
- Your baby strains and turns red during bowel movements.
- His stools are small, hard and dry.
- He appears to be uncomfortable and even in pain.

Helpful tips
- Gently move your baby’s legs in a bicycling motion.
- Gently massage your baby’s tummy in a clock-wise motion, three or four times a day.
- A diaper that is too tight may affect bowel movements. Undo the diaper on one side and lay your baby on his back.
Did you know about Galactooligosaccharides?
Breast milk is naturally rich in oligosaccharides that are important for your baby’s digestive health. Baby Essentials Infant Formula contains galactooligosaccharides (GOS), a type of oligosaccharide, that:
- May support the growth of good bacteria in your baby’s digestive system.
- Helps your baby have softer stools, similar to breastfed babies.
